Can Probiotics Help Soothe Colic In Babies?

When you become a parent, you imagine enjoying the first special moments with your baby. While it is a reality for many, it can also be challenging for some parents, especially when the baby has colic. It is devastating when your baby cries for hours, and there's little you can do to help. The guilt is real!

Unfortunately, colic is more common than we think. It affects between 8% to 15% of babies. It can also contribute to parents' depression in the early stages.

It is still unclear what causes colic. However, there is some evidence that Probiotics can help. Several studies tested the "good bacteria'' and how it can reduce colic in babies, and the results were more than satisfying. Probiotics can effectively reduce crying associated with colic discomfort in babies.

It was found that babies who take probiotics from the first week of life develop less colic discomfort and constipation in the first month. So probiotics improve the symptoms.

Giving babies the "good bacteria" from the early days can help develop their digestive system in the right way straight away. Besides this, probiotics help strengthen babies' immune systems and the lining of the intestine. Probiotics also help create a healthy balance of bacteria in the digestive system.

While the research around probiotics is still ongoing, some results are already positive. Even some sceptical doctors will still suggest giving probiotics a go if the baby is colicky and unsettled.

Childlife Essentials have developed a new product designed for babies experiencing colic discomfort called InfantBiotics Probiotic Drops. This product has been formulated to help relieve occasional stomach discomfort, crying, and fussiness. The probiotic strains used have been clinically studied in infants.
