How to Soothe Your Child’s Sore Throat

Sore throats in kids are very common and often can be a sign of another illness coming on from a common cold to a more severe illness like a strep throat infection. However, there are ways to soothe your child's sore throat and help them recover faster.

The symptom of a sore throat is a scratchy feeling in the throat and pain in swallowing, fever, redness in the back of the mouth or swollen glands.

Unfortunately, sore throat and an illness following it are uncomfortable for children to deal with and something that rest and time can help. So here are ways to help your kids feel a little better while trying to recover from their sickness.

Rest

This is the simplest but very effective solution. Ensure your child gets a whole night's sleep and takes it very easy during the day. Then, encourage them to nap during the day if they need to. Sleeping can aid in faster recovery.

Childlife Essentials Vitamins

Start giving your child Childlife Essentials First Defense, Echinacea and Vitamin C at the onset of their illness. It can help fast-forward their recovery and provide the vitamins to fight the illness.

Liquids

Provide plenty of fluids for your child. Hot liquids like honey and lemon drinks are great. You can also add Childlife Essentials Vitamin C into this drink to boost its properties.

Ice pops

Some might be surprised to hear it, but cold food like ice popsicles can soothe a sore throat. Kids would love that! We suggest choosing sugar-free and hydrating ice pops available in pharmacies.

Panadol/Pamol

You can manage pain with Panadol/Pamol to make your child feel more comfortable. However, we suggest following your doctor's instructions regarding this medicine and watching the dosage allowed.

See Your GP

If your child has been sick for an extended time and not getting better, we suggest talking to your medical professional and seeking further help.

Prevention

As with most illnesses, prevention is the key to avoiding being sick.

  • Regular hand-washing

  • Wearing a mask in certain situations like indoors in a busy environment

  • Not sharing food or utensils/cups with other kids

  • Avoiding close contact with unwell people

  • Taking Childlife Essentials vitamins regularly to boost the immune system.
